Job 19:25 “Yet as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last, He will take His stand on the earth.”
Between all the twisted, yet genuine words of Job expressing his feelings of misery, he let slip these precious words: גֹּ֣אֲלִי חָ֑י (Gō-ali hay), MY REDEEMER LIVES.
Now the reason Job uttered these words was because he felt his friends condemned him and failed to stand by him as they believed Job did something wrong or sinned to have such bad things come his way.
Job, however, made known that his very own people in his house as well as his neighbours were treating him like a stranger and that his own servant no longer obeyed him when he called him for help. Furthermore, Job expressed that the very breath of his life even caused his wife to rise up against him, and the little children in the streets mocked him.
The summary of Job’s argument is in Job 19:19, where he said, 'All my close friends detest me; and those I loved have turned against me.'
There are a lot of people who feel like Job, and maybe you are one of them, feeling that whether you turn left or right, everyone you rely on condemns you because of your misery, believing you should've done something wrong and your agony is the consequence of it.
But despite all the wrong conclusions, Job had this certainty of who he could turn to, and that is our Redeemer!
The Hebrew word גָּאַל (gaw-al') points to someone who restores the things you have lost, someone who redeems you and brings you over from evil and danger and your misery into glory, safety and peace.
Doesn’t this sound like what Paul explained when he wrote how God REDEEMED us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son of His love (Col 1:12-13)?
Sometimes our families, best friends and community cannot help because they don't understand, whereas our Redeemer knows us and saves us. People in your house and neighbours around you may not understand your misery and keep their distance as if you are a stranger, but Jesus won’t.
Your closest friends may even condemn your behaviour and feel pushed away by your behaviour, but Jesus won’t.
Others may not even listen when you cry out for help and really need them, but not Jesus; He hears you.
But like Job, we can turn to only One, our Redeemer, and His name is Jesus.
I know, my Redeemer lives!
