Ephesians 6:5-7 Servants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of your heart, as to Christ; not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men.
Even though Paul directed these words unto servants and maids in this passage, it still speaks to every believer in Christ, for Christians are servants of our Lord Jesus Christ who serves in this world in Jesus Name.
Christians get to serve the Lord every day in everything we serve other people with from the SINCERITY OF OUR HEART and by DOING THE WILL OF GOD FROM THE HEART.
Now I know many people may say, "Neil, nobody knows my circumstances, and you don't work for my boss, you don't know the people I work with," and while it's true, the greater truth is, Jesus knows your circumstances and who you work for and who you work with.
And because He knows, Ephesians 6:6 and 7 reminds us exactly HOW to be of service: not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart. Wow, how's that, the privilege to be a servant of Christ who does the will of God from the heart, not to please men, but to please Him!
Although our sincere service may go unnoticed in this world, we should not forget that we serve the One who DOES NOT LET OUR SERVICE GO UNNOTICED! But let's be honest, ask yourself, are you serving from your heart as if you are serving the Lord? To serve others knowing you are serving Christ is to reveal the will of God and to display the value of others within the will of God!
As believers, our service should reflect something of Jesus' service — He came saying He didn't come to judge the world, but to serve it. Jesus humbled Himself and took on the form of a servant, a slave. So when we are truly servant-hearted as believers, others should clearly see something of the fruit of Jesus' service in us—not just someone who's gentle, yielding, and unassuming, but Jesus' character itself.
So unto all fellow believers in Christ: may we be servants and maids who serve the world in Jesus' name, not with eyeservice as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ who serve from the heart in order to please Him!
