1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field; you are God’s building.
Wow, what a privilege to be God's field, and His building!
Paul used these examples in a time when the Corinthian church placed much emphasis on who their leaders were. Basically, Paul reminded us of whose we are and what we are to God.
When each believer in Christ realises who we are and what we are unto the Lord, we will simply stop focusing on who the servants are and fix our gaze upon God, as we are His, and He is cultivating us like a field and constructing us like a building.
Now think about this for a moment: you are God's field. Like any field, a field can only bring forth a harvest of the seed it received. Oh, I hope you received what God sowed into you, as He gave the fullness of His Son unto us, sown into us, so that we can bring forth the fruit, the harvest of all He has done in us.
Peter wrote it so beautifully in 1 Peter 1:23: For you have been born again not of seed, which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
Also remember, as a "field," we belong to our owner, which is the Lord. That’s why Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: "You are not your own…you were bought with a price."
We are indeed God's field, as He holds the title deed of our lives, and only the very best got sown into us: His Word, His will, and all of His Son, Jesus Christ.
But then Paul also said we are God's building!
Now we should be careful to easily acknowledge that we are the temple of God in which the Holy Spirit dwells, because I wonder sometimes if believers really grasp the fullness of what it means to be God's house, His address, His dwelling place?
How can our lives simply continue to be the same if we get that we are God's building, the very Home of the Holy Spirit!?
Therefore, let us take care of this building of God, not the brick buildings and places where Christians gather, but each other, the real church, the real building of God.
Finally, believe who God says we are in Christ, and let us bear the fruit of what He has sown in us, and allow the Holy Spirit who dwells in us not to be like a tenant but the Owner so that He can build us up as Jesus gets to build His church.
Amen
