The kindness and care of God

28 May 2026

2 Samuel 9:3-4 Then the king said: "Is there no one remaining of the house of Saul to whom I could show the kindness of God?” And Ziba said to the king: "There is still a son of Jonathan, one who is disabled in both feet.” So, the king said to him: "Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king: "Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.”

What King David did years and years ago to Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, pointed forward to what Jesus did with all of us, because just like Mephibosheth, sin made us lame, as it also disabled us to get out of Lo-debar.

"Lo" in Hebrew means NO and "Debar" means PASTURE and a COMMAND or a WORD.

Aaah, can you see how Mephibosheth was stuck in in a place that had no pasture and no word that could change his life? Well that was until the kindness of God came his way, as a King's word has gone out unto him, because in 2 Samuel 9:5 we read that king David heard of Mephibosheth, and immediately sent his messengers to bring him from the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.

Wow, can you see how the word of King Jesus came your way and changed your life?

Just as Mephibosheth was brought from a place of no pasture by a king to his table and given a word from the king in a place where no other word was able to change his life, God sent His Word, Jesus Christ unto us.

When David bestowed the kindness of God towards Mephibosheth, everything of his life changed.

By the way, the name Mephibosheth, means a dispeller of shame, someone who destroys shame, yet Mephibosheth himself lived in shame and couldn’t dispell it by his own strength, just like all of us couldn’t change our lives by our own name or fame or achievements or accolades, only Jesus' name changes us!

I want to remind you of 2 things this morning: First, we too, like Mephibosheth, were crippled by sin, in Lo-debar, and the word of a king changed everything.

Second, if you have received Christ Jesus as the Word of God who bestowed the fullness of His kindness and mercy and grace upon you, then we must realise that we are part of His royal family by His doing, and am now blessed to be children of the King who can now bestow His kindness unto others like king David did, cause there are many people who are still in Lodebar!

We carry the Word of the King, the Gospel that can change lives!

What do we do with the kindness of God today?

Amen
