Luke 4:17-21
And the scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to Him. And He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favourable year of the Lord.” And He rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all the people in the synagogue were intently directed at Him. Now He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
It’s amazing how quickly one missile from, or, one missile on Israel can grab people's attention to witness the promises of God in Bible prophecy, yet many don’t grasp the reality of what Jesus came to do in us when He announced Scripture being fulfilled in us years and years ago! Just like all the power of the missiles that fly back and forth cause devastation everywhere it reaches its target, we must fathom the enormous power of what Christ came to fulfill in His target, mankind!
Missile missions on earth always brings chaos, as they kill and destroy both land and people, whereas Christ's mission was to come to us, and cause another kind of explosion in us like in that synagogue years ago. His mission was certainly to hit the target and destroy the very works of the devil and sin in us!
The beauty of Jesus' words is that He is the same yesterday today and forever, meaning what He came on a mission to do in us years ago, still manifests in all who receive and believe in Him till this day!
Not many people know this, but Jesus only read half of Isaiah 61 verse 2 that day and then closed the Scroll after the first half of the verse.
The reason was simple: During Christ's first coming, He came to bring the Good News that resulted in the favourable year of the Lord, whilst His return will surely bring the day of vengeance of our God.
Luke tells us what the reaction was in the synagogue after Jesus read the scroll, closed it, and sat down: the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were intently directed at him (Luke 4:20).
If only they knew, and beheld who He is, for who He who knew no sin, became sin for us, as He took all the vengeance and wrath that man deserves, upon Himself, so that those who believe in Him may never one day come under the vengeance of God, but truly live each day till His return in the favourable year of the Lord!
You see instead of creating chaos and destruction, Jesus' words that day were like a missile. He proclaimed who He was and what He came for, who the target was and what would happen to the target when hit. He brought the riches of God’s love, forgiveness, and mercy unto us who were all poor in spirit. He came to set us free from sin and shame and recovered our sight; to behold His glorious light and live completely free from all oppression!
No wonder it is called the acceptable, the favourable year of the Lord, for His mission with His first coming was exactly that, to make us acceptable and place God's favour inside of us!
Sadly, many people are starting to see other Prophetic words of Christ coming into fulfilment, yet not all beholds what He gave unto them to live each day till His return in the favourable time of the Lord.
If you believe with me in Christ, may our actions through Him truly be like missiles who hit its target, hitting others with the Good News of all He has done, so that those who believe in Him may also enter the favourable year of the Lord.
Amen
