The weapons of our warfare

23 July 2026

2 Corinthians 10:4-5: For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

I'm sure you are familiar with the old saying: "You dont bring a knife to a gunfight."  Many believers forget that we are in a daily spiritual battle in which our enemy wants to disarm us of our faith in Christ and therefore bring the wrong weapon to the fight.

Paul has written many a word on this battle. For instance, in Ephesians 6:12: our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

The Devil knows how much God loves us and all He has given us in Christ Jesus, so he wants us to doubt and think less on the finished work of Christ in us, aiming to make us doubt the truth of God's wisdom saving and renewing us through the Gospel.

See, once we doubt the Gospel, our faith seems futile and powerless, and arrogance starts rising up in our minds against the truth and knowledge of God, builds up a wall, and then arguments start against God's perfect will for our lives.

But praise the Lord that the truth in Christ isn't a teeny-weeny little worthless knife in a gunfight, no no no, for our weapons are powerful to destroy every lie and argument and arrogance that gets raised against the knowledge of God!

How do we do it? We take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:5).

Hallelujah! You see, it's Jesus's obedience that breaks the walls in our minds and sets us free of lies and deception! The attack on your faith in Christ is to draw you away from the knowledge of what God made known and what He accomplished in you through Christ, and the way the enemy does that is to distort your focus from Jesus' obedience and make you focus on your disobedience and obedience instead!

Oh, and although many translations read "the obedience to Christ", the original Greek text reads "the obedience of/from Christ". See, when we behold Christ's obedience, those strongholds come tumbling down.

No wonder Paul said that the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but divinely powerful (2 Cor 10:4!).

Take every thought captive to the Divine obedience of Christ, believe in what Jesus has done, and gracefully receive His work in us by faith.

Remember, the enemy wants us to focus on our obedience instead of Jesus' obedience, and when we rely on a faith that'that's based on our doing and not Jesus' doing, we bring a knife to a gunfight.

But faith in Christ isn't a knife in a gunfight; its the Word of God, the sharp two-edged sword, the Sword of the Spirit, which destroys every argument and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God as soon as we take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour!

Amen!
