Psalm 139:11-12 If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” Even darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.
Ah hallelujah, may you too be uplifted and strengthened this morning by who Christ Jesus is!
You see, no matter how dark and evil this world around us may be or become, and no matter how dark our current situations and circumstances may seem in which we find ourselves, remember in who we get to live and move and have your being IN CHRIST, who is the Light of the world!
That's why all believers in Christ can confess, like David did, that darkness is not even dark to our Lord, and even though we all, like David, face moments where things around us seem dark and we don't see the light at the end of the tunnel, we are reminded of who we serve, who we trust, and who we fully rely upon and believe in that is for us and not against us!
It dawned on David that none of the dark things we experience could extinguish the wonderful light of the Lord, through whom we were fearfully and wonderfully made.
Now even though David did not deny the evil work of darkness that was surrounding him, he did, however, focus on who the Lord is instead of the darkness, and that's why the greatness of the Lord's omnipresence and light got his airtime!
See, no amount of darkness around or against us can change who Jesus is, but it can surely be changed by Him, as His light also changes us despite the dark circumstances we tend to find ourselves in.
The Gospel declares, 'And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it' (John 1:5).
Oh and Im sure you also thought of John 8:12 where Jesus said: "I am the light of the world; he who follows Me will certainly not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Just like David, our reality, regardless of the dark moments and situations that so often surround us, is in Christ, the Light of the world who gave us the light of life, so that we too get to confess like David: darkness to You is not dark – night is as bright as the day!
Believers get to walk as children of light in this dark world so that in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, we get to shine brightly as lights because of who we are in the Light of life, Christ Jesus.
